Brachnoid Wasp - Lepidoptera Parasitoid |
Brachnoid wasps parasitize moth and butterfly caterpillars. Different species of brachnoids exhibit a slightly different behavior when creating their cocoons in their lifecycle. Some make their cocoon on the caterpillar itself, some underneath the caterpillar, and some beside the caterpillar. |
Some species of brachnoid wasps create their cocoons and the host caterpillar stays on top of the cocoons. The host caterpillar (which dies) guards the brachnoid cocoons. |
