Cassius Blue Butterfly - Leptotes cassius |
Cassius Blue butterflies lay eggs on Leadwort Plumbago sp flower buds. Caterpillars eat flower buds, pupate, and emerge as tiny butterflies. |
To locate these caterpillars, pick flower buds (the entire bloom spike) and place in a plastic container. The next morning, open the container and look for frass (caterpillar excrement). If frass is present, obviously at least one caterpillar is also present! (This tip is shared by Marc and Maria Minno in one of their books.
