Checkered White Butterfly - Pontia protodice

Checkered White butterflies are plentiful at the sides of roads and in fields in the spring when Virginia Peppergrass and their other host plants are growing. Female butterflies white color is not pure white but is darker in color, appearing almost as if they are dirty. Male Checkered White butterflies white is very white, as if washed in bleach.
